Annette Winkler, Smart CEO, has confirmed there will be no next generation Smart Roadster.
There were rumours the brand is working on a two-seat sports vehicle, based on the current ForTwo and ForFour models. But speaking to What Car?, Winkler said that “the Roadster isn’t a profitable business case” and “everybody is keen on the car, but nobody wants to pay the bill”.
The same magazine also says the company is probably preparing a baby SUV to rival the likes of the Nissan Juke and the Renault Captur. There is no word on when it could arrive, as Winkler comments now the company must focus on how to “maximize potential of the ForTwo and ForFour” and “that is strategy number one”.
