A Tesla Model S was recently stolen from a Los Angeles dealership and involved in a high-speed crash.

According to local media reports, the driver of the car lead police on a high-speed chase but eventually lost control and hit a Honda Civic before plowing into a light pole. This caused the Model S to split into two pieces and burst into flames. The car reportedly hit speeds up to 100 mph (161 km/h) during the chase and footage shows the severity of the crash as half of the car was wedged in a synagogue entrance.

Unfortunately, three people in the Civic were injured and the car thief is reported to be in critical condition.

Tesla is working with police and fire officials to investigate the crash and the company wants to exam the car as soon as possible. As company spokesman Simon Sproule told Bloomberg, “There aren’t so many S’s involved in major crashes, and certainly not quite like this one, so we absolutely want to have a look to understand what happened.”
