Volkswagen has fully revealed the all-new Euro-spec Passat B8 described as being "the most successful European business car."

Sporting an evolutionary design, the overhauled Passat is 4767mm long, 1832mm wide and 1456mm tall which means it is 2mm shorter, 12mm wider and 6mm lower than the old one. Using a combination of high-strength steel, hot-formed steel and aluminum, Volkswagen's engineers were able to shave off up to 85 kg (188 lbs), with the lightest model tipping the scales at just 1,312 kg (2,892 lbs).

The wheelbase has been stretched by 79mm to 2791mm, along with 31mm wider front tracks (at 1584mm) and 14mm wider rear tracks (at 1568mm). It features a 9kg lighter suspension encompassing front MacPherson struts and a multi-link setup for the rear. All models get LED taillights while the headlights can also be optionally configured with LEDs featuring Dynamic Light Assist that can automatically adjust the high beam without disturbing incoming traffic.

Despite maintaining just about the same proportions, the eight-generation Passat comes with a 21 liters larger trunk which now stands at 586 liters. The Variant's cargo capacity has also gone up by 47 liters to 650 liters and folding down the rear seats will increase the luggage area to 1,780 liters. In addition, the revamped Passat manages to provide more leg-, head- and shoulder-room for both front and rear passengers compared to its predecessor.

As far as the engine lineup is concerned, the Passat B8 will be offered with the following motors:

  • 1.4 TSI with 125 PS (92 kW) and 150 PS (110 kW)
  • 1.8 TSI with 180 PS (132 kW)
  • 2.0 TSI with 220 PS (162 kW) and 280 PS (206 kW)
  • 1.6 TDI with 120 PS (88 kW)
  • 2.0 TDI with 150 PS (110 kW), 190 PS (140 kW) and 240 PS (176 kW)
  • 1.4 TSI plug-in hybrid with 211 PS (155 kW)

Gone are the traditional analog instruments on upper-spec versions as these are replaced with an Active Info Display which is a configurable 12.3-inch TFT screen as seen in the TT. There's also a head-up display featuring a separate glass panel installed within the top of the dashboard to project all the useful information within the line of sight of the driver.

The 2015 Passat can be configured with a wide array of safety and assistance systems such as Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert, Traffic Jam Assist, City Emergency Braking, Trailer Assist, Emergency Assist, revised 360-degree Area View function and others as well.

Order books will open up on July 10 and pricing will kick off in Germany from 25,875 EUR (sedan) and 25,950 EUR (wagon).
