Volkswagen has published the first images with the 2015 Passat and Passat Variant.

At the moment we don’t have an official press release but we already know a great deal about the all-new Passat. It’s up to 85 kg (188 lbs) lighter and will be available with a couple of 1.4 TSI engines generating 125 PS and 150 PS, respectively. There’s also the usual 1.8 TSI with 180 PS and a 2.0 TSI duo with 220 PS and 280 PS. On the diesel side, you will find VAG’s typical 1.6 TDI rated at 120 PS and a trio of 2.0-liter TDIs with 150 PS, 190 PS and 240 PS.

Despite being 2mm shorter than its predecessor, the overhauled Passat has a 79mm longer wheelbase (at 2.79 meters) as a result of moving the front wheels forward by 29mm and the rear wheels 17mm backwards. It’s also 14mm lower (at 1456mm) and 12mm wider (at 1832mm). The Passat Variant’s trunk capacity has increased by 47 liters to 650 liters while the sedan’s trunk has expanded by 21 liters to 586 liters.

Weight savings combined with thriftier engines promise to make the new Passat up to 20 percent more economical and there’s also a 211 PS plug-in hybrid version with a 600 mile (966 km) combined range and 31 mile (50 km) electric range.

Also on the menu for the 2015 Euro-spec Passat are LED headlights and taillights, a TT-derived digital instrument cluster, head-up display and an extensive array of assistance systems like Trailer Assist, Traffic Jam Assist, Side Assist with Rear Traffic Alert, City Emergency Braking and Park Assist, just to name a few.

We will offer more details as soon as we get our hands on the official press release.
