Porsche recently returned to Le Mans following a 16 year absence and it looks like McLaren is considering a similar move with a 650S GTE.

In an interview with Autosport, McLaren GT Project Manager Andrew Kirkaldy said "I would be very surprised if you don't see a 650S running at Le Mans at some point and we hope to be there from 2016." Kirkaldy went on the say the 650S GT3 is "not far from a GTE car in some aspects, like the hubs, suspension and bigger wheels and tires — it is a good step towards that."

While the company hasn't officially confirmed their plans to return to Le Mans, Kirkaldy suggested they are waiting for the Automobile Club de l'Ouest and the FIA to finalize their new regulations before they will begin building the car.
