The Volkswagen Golf R 400 concept has made its video debut and it gives us the chance to hear its raucous soundtrack.

In April at the Beijing Motor Show, Volkswagen surprised everyone with its radical Golf R 400 concept and now the car has been caught on camera in Vienna, Austria revving its uprated 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that puts out no less than 400 PS (294 kW) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft). Just like the regular Golf VII R, the concept boasts a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system and has maintained the 1,420 kg (3,130 lbs) weight.

Thanks to an extra 100 PS (73 kW) and 70 Nm (51 lb-ft), the concept sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.9 seconds so it's one second quicker than the Golf R. Moreover, the top speed has increased from an electronically-limited 155 mph (250 km/h) to 174 mph (280 km/h).

It could turn out to be more than just a show car as there are some rumors about a production version that could have even more power. It is believed Volkswagen will start producing the Golf R 400 only if they can find a suitable gearbox to handle the 450 Nm torque. Chances are they already did as the upcoming 2015 Passat will be offered with a 7-speed DSG transmission working with a 4-cylinder 2.0-liter TDI bi-turbodiesel that generates 500 Nm (368 lb-ft).
