A prototype of the next generation Volkswagen Touran has been spied testing somewhere on European roads.

Although it will look a lot like the outgoing model, the new Touran will represent a major departure since it is believed the MPV will adopt the MQB platform which means it could lose up to 100 kg (220 lbs). Under the hood it will likely get some of the Golf VII's turbocharged gasoline and diesel engines and could spawn again a rugged-looking Cross Touran version with a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system.

It is believed the model will hit United States as well but at this moment this is only a rumor. Expect the third generation Volkswagen Touran to be unveiled towards the end of the year or early 2015 before going on sale shortly thereafter.
