Development work continues on the BMW M2 as our spies have snapped new pictures of the model undergoing testing on the Nürburgring.

Looking virtually identical to the M235i, the prototype has a familiar design but it has reportedly been equipped with wider front and rear fenders. The front fenders also appear to have vents but nothing is official as of yet.  We can also see a dual exhaust system but we wouldn't be surprised if the production model gains a more traditional four-tailpipe system.

Power will reportedly be provided by a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that develops approximately 370-380 PS (272-279 kW). This would make the model 44-54 PS (32-39 kW) more powerful than the M235i Coupe which can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in as little as 4.8 seconds with the optional eight-speed automatic transmission.

The BMW M2 is rumored to go into production in the fall of 2015 so it will likely be a 2016 model.
