BMW has released a new video, highlighting the lightweight construction of the i8 hybrid sports vehicle.
As the Bavarian brand explains, the Efficient Dynamics technologies, launched more than a decade ago and used in the i8, aim to make the car more dynamic and more efficient at once. Weight saving is the key characteristic, ensuring the vehicle could combine these two qualities.
The BMW i8 is a 1,490 kg (3,284 lbs) plug-in hybrid machine with a 2+2 configuration and a carbon fiber reinforced plastic passenger cell. The coupe is powered by a hybrid system consisting of a 1.5-liter, 3-cylinder gasoline TwinPower Turbo engine and an electric motor. The total power is rated at 362 HP (266 kW) and 420 lb-ft (570 Nm) of torque.
