Porsche has released a new video which highlights their 911 V8 prototype.

Originally envisioned as a successor to the iconic 959, the car featured an Audi-sourced V8 engine which would have been replaced by a Porsche V8 had it been approved for production. Of course, that didn't happen as the project was axed in 1988.

According to Dieter Landenberger, the Chief of Archive for the Porsche Museum, "I think seriously nobody had in mind to bring a car into production with an Audi V8 but it was just a test if such a concept could have a future. Lucky they kept on building flat six engines and I think that's the heart of all 911s and this was definitely a good decision."
