German media is reporting the upcoming Audi RS3 will eschew the familiar turbocharged five-cylinder 2.5-liter engine in favor of a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbo motor.

It seems Audi has decided to drop the iconic five-cylinder 2.5-liter turbocharged engine to make room for a smaller four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo unit taken from the TT offroad concept showcased a few days ago in China at the Beijing Motor Show. In the RS3 it will allegedly be dialed to 400 PS (294 kW) sent to the quattro all-wheel drive system via a 7-speed S tronic gearbox.

It is believed the Audi RS3 will be introduced towards the end of the year and will be available exclusively as a five-door Sportback variant. Previous reports have indicated the availability of an optional dynamic package but details are not available at this point.
