A new report indicates Mazda will introduce the 2015 MX-5 next month at the New York International Auto Show.

About a week ago Mazda said they will be celebrating Miata's 25thanniversary next month at the NY Auto Show and that announcement was shortly followed by a rumor suggesting the 2015 MX-5's chassis will be also exhibited at the show. Now, AutoWeek is reporting Mazda will actually introduce the all-new Miata at the event.

From what we know so far, the vehicle is going to be offered with a naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder SkyActiv-G engine taken from the Mazda3. A larger 2.0-liter motor from the same engine family will likely be available as well along with a full suite of SkyActiv technologies.

The new Miata will retain its rear-wheel drive layout and will share approximately 40 percent of its components with the Alfa Romeo Spider. It will allegedly tip the scales at around 2,200 lbs (998 kg) and will be about 30 percent more fuel economical due to a homogenous charge compression system.

If the rumor turns out to be true, the new generation Mazda MX-5 Miata will be unveiled on April 16 during the first press day of the 2014 New York International Auto Show.
