The highly anticipated Mercedes-Benz AMG GT has returned in a fresh spy video ahead of this year's official reveal.

The SLS AMG will soon be phased out and although there won't be a direct replacement, Mercedes-Benz is planning a smaller model that will forgo the gullwing doors. Internally codenamed "C190", the rear-wheel drive two-seater can be seen conducting some last-minute winter testing as the model is expected to come out in the months to come.

Mercedes-Benz design chief Gorden Wagener has characterized it as being "the most beautiful car" ever made by the company and will allegedly borrow a few design cues from the 1952 Panamericana-winning 300 SL.

Offered only with RWD and without the possibility of a manual gearbox, the model is said to receive the "AMG GT" moniker and will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 4.0-liter. A hardcore Black Series version is also in the pipeline, along with "many, many more variants" according to AMG chief Tobias Moers.

Reports about an official reveal are contradictory as one says it will be introduced on July 20 at the German F1 GP while another one says images will be published online in September, prior to a public debut in October at the Paris Motor Show.
