According to a recent report, Toyota's version of the Mazda2 will use Skyactiv engines.

Speaking to Automotive News, Mazda Mexico CEO Keishi Egawa confirmed “They will make model-specific investment[s] for the Toyota vehicle" but it will use "our engine." Egawa went on to say the Toyota variant will have a unique exterior styling and a revised interior.

Toyota has remained relatively quiet about the model but speculation has suggested it could replace the Yaris in the United States. Regardless of what happens, Toyota has already confirmed the model will go into production next summer - at Mazda's plant in Salamanca, Mexico - and they expect to build 50,000 units annually.
