The Opel Astra was introduced nearly five years ago so it comes as little surprise that the company is working on a redesigned model.

Set to be introduced in 2016, the next-generation Astra will reportedly draw cues from the Monza concept. Designers are trying to give the model a more premium appearance so we can expect intricate details including an aluminum strip that runs from the roof to the taillights.

Little else is known about the model but it will be available in a variety of body styles including a three- and five-door hatchback and an estate. Nothing is official but the model is could ride on an updated version of its current architecture.

Under the hood, we can expect an assortment of new engines including a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder with 114 bhp (85 kW) and 124 lb-ft (168 Nm). There should also be a new-six speed manual transmission which is lighter and smoother than its predecessor.
