Qoros has introduced this week in Geneva its second production model, the 3 Hatch.
Chinese automakers have one of the worst reputations in the automotive industry but that might change in the near future as Qoros is a new member that at a first glance seems to offer significantly better products than local rivals. These days in Geneva they are showcasing a hatchback variant of the 3 Sedan which is 177mm shorter but the wheelbase has been maintained to offer what Qoros says is a "generous interior space for a vehicle in the compact segment."
Looking a lot better than most Chinese cars, the Qoros 3 Hatch clearly echoes the sedan and has been developed to target young customers. Under the hood there's a four-cylinder 1.6-liter gasoline engine either naturally-aspirated or turbocharged coupled to six-speed manual or dual-clutch gearboxes.
With the 124 bhp (92 kW) NA engine it will do 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 11.6 seconds while with the 154 bhp (115 kW) turbocharged motor the time is reduced to 9.7 seconds.
Qoros has announced the 3 Hatch will be sold with a choice of four trim levels, offering as standard (Essence) air conditioning and keyless start. Opt for Experience and you also get leather trim, dual-zone climate control and rear parking camera. The Experience Plus variant adds a large glass sunroof, while the range-topping Elegance comes with heated front seats, cruise control and keyless entry. Regardless of the selected trim, all versions come with an 8-inch touchscreen display.
Pricing hasn't been disclosed but in China it will probably be a tad cheaper than the MG6 hatchback since the 3 Sedan is approximately 500 GBP more affordable than the MG6 sedan.
Production will take place in Changshu, China where Qoros also makes the 3 Sedan. Speaking of the sedan, it was the safest car tested by Euro NCAP last year so the 3 Hatch should be just as safe.
Both models are slated to go on sale in Europe later this year and a wagon derivative will be added to the "3" range in the near future.
