Mercedes and Renault-Nissan have been exploring additional areas of cooperation but they won't include the company's new MRA platform.

In an interview with Motoring, Mercedes' head of research and development said the architecture will be exclusive to the German automaker. As Dr Thomas Weber explained, "There is no discussion centered on the MRA platform because MRA is Mercedes hard core." He went on to say “Very often my answer is [as] an engineer you should never say no but today it is a clear decision that we should limit, so please don’t speculate."

While we shouldn't expect an MRA-based Infiniti, Weber confirmed we will see more than ten models based on the modular architecture. The executive declined to elaborate but hinted "We can do vehicles you don’t even know about at the moment."
