New details are starting to emerge about Audi's e-quattro all-wheel drive system.
According to a recently published patent application, the system would use an electric motor to power the rear axle. Little else is known about the system but Autocar believes it has been designed to allow for regenerative braking. This would be beneficial in hybrid, plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle applications where the regenerative braking energy would be feed back into the battery.
In related news, Audi filed an application for active shutter wheels that have flaps that close to reduce drag. While they sound futuristic, Ford introduced a similar system on the Atlas concept last year.
