Tata has unveiled today in New Delhi the ZEST compact sedan and BOLT hatchback which both adopt the firm's new "DesignNext" styling language.

Tata used to have some quirky designs but the ZEST and BOLT are fairly decent and will both be global offerings from the Indian automaker. Aside from featuring a fresh design language, both models get a newly developed 4-cylinder 1.2-liter turbocharged Revotron gasoline engine delivering 85 HP (62 kW) at 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm (103 lb-ft) between 1,750 rpm and 3,000 rpm. There's also a 1.3-liter Quadrajet diesel sourced from Fiat with 90 HP (66 kW) at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) available within the same rpm range and coupled to a new five-speed automated manual transmission.

The ZEST small sedan is 3995mm long, 1695mm wide and 1570mm tall and tips the scales at just 1,106 kg (2,438 lbs). Inside the cabin both vehicles get a new HARMAN infotainment system packing a five-inch touchscreen display with support for voice recognition, Bluetooth, as well as smartphone and social media integration.

Both vehicles ride on Tata's X1 platform and will be launched later this year in India and other global markets.
