Nissan is allegedly taking into consideration building a sportier-looking version of the new Qashqai to compete with the popular Range Rover Evoque.

Nissan Europe's general manager for product planning and strategy Marco Fioravanti recently declared a coupe-styled Qashqai could be a success in Europe in a segment dominated by the coupe-ish Evoque compact crossover. Automotive News Europe says a source within Nissan confirmed a coupe-like Qashqai is under consideration and could be launched in the next several years.

A hybrid variant of the second-gen Qashqai will not be created since Nissan believes its conventional engines already have "excellent fuel consumption" and they want to keep a high "value for money formula" for the model. On the other end of the specter, Nissan global product chief Andy Palmer has already confirmed a hotter Nismo derivative which could pack a 215 bhp (157 kW) punch taken from the Juke Nismo RS.
