Rumors about a Volkswagen Polo R have been swirling for years, but Autobild was recently given a chance to drive a prototype.

Designed to slot above the Polo R WRC Street, the Polo R prototype has a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that develops 250 HP (184 kW). This enables the all-wheel drive model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than six seconds and hit a top speed of less than 250 km/h (155 mph).

Everything sounds rather promising, but it remains unclear if the model will actually go into production. It seems possible that it will but we can't imagine Audi would be too happy about a Polo R that is more powerful than their S1.
