Volkswagen has announced plans to offer a "supplementary mobility package" for German e-up! buyers.

Designed to alleviate range anxiety, the package will enable owners to reserve a conventionally-powered vehicle to use on long trips or for transporting large objects. The offer is good for up to three years after the purchase of an e-up! and owners will be able to use to a supplementary vehicle for up to 30 days per year. The service isn't exactly free but Volkswagen says they won't charge users until they travel past an undisclosed distance.

As we have previously reported, the e-up! has an 18.7 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that develops 82 HP (60 kW) and 210 Nm (155 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 12.4 seconds, hit a top speed of 130 km/h (81 mph) and travel up to 160 km (99 miles) on a single charge.
