BMW is reportedly preparing to launch an i3 Electronaut Edition.
During a meeting with ActiveE owners (aka Electronauts), Jacob Harb - BMW North America's head of Electric Vehicle Operations and Strategy - mentioned the possibility of an Electronaut Edition and suggested it could have special equipment that is unique to the model. Harb also suggested the car could have an exclusive color combination, possibly white with BMW i Blue accents.
There's no word on when the special edition will be launched but the i3 doesn't go on sale in the United States until the second quarter of 2014.
As a refresher, the i3 has a 22 kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor that develops 170 HP (125 kW) and 250 Nm (184 lb-ft) of torque. This enables the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.2 seconds, hit a top speed of 150 km/h (93 mph) and travel 130 – 160 kilometers (81 – 99 miles) on a single charge.
