A WCF reader has sent us a couple of photographs with the Mercedes-Benz S-Class extra-long wheelbase scheduled to come out sometime next year.

The new generation of the S-Class is set to receive a new longer version that will have a stretched wheelbase to provide even more room for rear passengers. The current S-Class LWB on sale today is 5246mm long while this XL version will be approximately 200mm longer and will keep the same 2+2 seating arrangement.

As seen on previous spy photos, the third side window will be positioned after the rear doors, as opposed to the standard and LWB versions which have the third side window in the rear door section. The car will be available in a plug-in hybrid version which will likely adopt the powertrain from the 2014 S500 Plug-In Hybrid, combining a 328 bhp V6 3.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a 107 bhp electric motor.

Let's not forget Mercedes-Benz plans an even longer S-Class, a rumored "Pullman" version set to fill the empty left by the defunct Maybach brand. That model will allegedly be almost six meters long and should come out several months after this XL version.

Special thanks go to Marco Villars for sending us the pics!
