The future of the Fast & Furious franchise is in doubt following the sudden death of Paul Walker this weekend.

Citing sources close to Fast & Furious 7, TMZ is reporting the movie is almost certain to be halted as Walker was scheduled to shoot several key scenes later this week. Furthermore, the cast remains "too distraught to work" following the sudden and tragic death of the 40 year-old actor.

Should production resume, the script would need to be rewritten as Walker's character - Brian O'Connor - is central to movie. Walker's death also calls into question the future of the franchise as the star was also slated to appear in Fast & Furious 8.

As for the crash itself, police are continuing to investigate what caused the Porsche Carrera GT to crash into a light pole and burst into flames. Nothing has been determined but Los Angeles County Sheriff Sgt. Richard Cohen told CNN that investigators are looking into a tip which suggested drag racing could have been involved. The sheriff's office is also looking into the possibility that another car veered in front of the Porsche and caused the accident.
