A design sketch allegedly depicting the forthcoming Caterham SUV has surfaced the web, but company officials have promptly denied releasing the drawing.

Earlier today a design sketch showing what was believed to be the silhouette of an upcoming crossover / SUV from Caterham was published on Twitter. However, officials of the British marque replied immediately and said it doesn't belong to them.

Whether it's real or not, sooner or later we will see a crossover or an SUV with the Caterham badge as the company's plans are to become a mainstream brand. The firm's boss Tony Fernandes already expressed his desire to launch "SUVs, city cars, [or] whatever the market wants." Earlier this year in an interview given to Reuters, Fernandes said "if we get the SUV right it will be huge."

But before that, Caterham's next model is going to be a sports car developed in collaboration with Renault. Known internally as the C120, the two-seater will reportedly be out in 2016 with 250 bhp (186 kW) in a 1,110 kg (2,425 lbs) body.
