Audi's Board Member for Technical Development has revealed some new details about the 2015 R8.

Speaking at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Ulrich Hackenberg told Motor Trend the next-generation R8 will be approximately 110 - 130 lbs (50 - 59 kg) lighter than its predecessor thanks to carbon fiber floorboards and a carbon fiber central tunnel.

Hackenberg also revealed the R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo successor will each have their own unique driving experience despite sharing a number of similar components.

The executive declined to discuss engine options but previous reports have indicated the car could be offered with a 4.2-liter V8 that develops 450 bhp (335 kW) and a 5.2-liter V10 with roughly 570 bhp (425 kW).

The 2015 R8 could be introduced early next year as Audi has already confirmed plans to begin production in mid-2014.
