Volkswagen has announced plans to stage the North American debut of the e-Golf at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Set to go on sale in select U.S. states in the fourth quarter of 2014, the e-Golf has a 24.2 kWh lithium-ion battery that powers an electric motor which develops 115 bhp (85 kW) and 199 lb-ft (269 Nm) of torque. This enables the car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in approximately 10.4 seconds, hit an electronically-limited top speed of 87 mph (140 km/h) and travel 70 to 90 miles (112 to 144 km) on a single charge.

When the battery is depleted, it can be recharged in approximately 20 hours with a 110/120V electrical socket or less than four hours with a 220V wallbox. If you just need a quick top off, a DC Fast Charging station can deliver an 80% charge in roughly 30 minutes.

The e-Golf will be available exclusively as a five-door hatchback and is distinguished by a revised grille and LED headlights. The model also distinctive LED daytime running lights and aerodynamically optimized 16-inch alloy wheels.

Interior changes are limited but the e-Golf has a new instrument cluster, an EV-specific infotainment system and blue accents.
