For the third time in a little over a month, a Tesla Model S has caught on fire.
The fire occurred yesterday in Smyrna, Tennessee when 38 year old Juris Shibayama ran over a tow hitch on Interstate 24. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the hitch then "hit the undercarriage of the vehicle causing an electrical fire." The accident is still under investigation but it sounds remarkably similar to the first fire which was caused when a Model S hit a "large metallic" piece of road debris that penetrated one of its battery modules.
Tesla spokeswoman Elizabeth Jarvis-Shean told Reuters "Our team is on its way to Tennessee to learn more about what happened in the accident. We will provide more information when we're able to do so."
