The new generation BMW 5-series has been caught for the first time in its lucrative sedan body style. We caught a first look of the wagon variant a couple of times over the past few months but its sibling has now popped out for a chat with our click happy photographers.

Evidently, BMW have adopted another evolutionary design approach to the upcoming model although it is a little too soon to draw any conclusions.

The big surprise will be the introduction of a three-cylinder turbodiesel engine. Reports state it will produce around 150 HP (110 kW) and will return superb fuel economy figures of just 3.9 liters / 100 km (60 mpg US or 72 mpg UK). At the other end of the scale, the M5 is expected to exceed 600 HP (441 kW) and will be the first M model to be offered with optional all-wheel drive.

The new platform under development will also be used on the next generation 6-series following its debut in 5-series.
