Rumors about a large Cadillac crossover have been swirling for years but Car & Driver is reporting the model has finally been approved for production.

Citing sources familiar with the project, the magazine is reporting the model is already under development and will ride on the Lambda II platform that will also underpin the next-generation Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia. Little else is known about the model but it will reportedly have three rows of seats which could enable it to offer seating for up to eight people.

If everything pans out, the crossover could be launched in 2016 and become an interesting alternative to the Escalade.
