We have seen the 2014 BMW X4 on plenty of occasions but now a prototype has been spied wearing less camouflage. As you would imagine, design will take cues from the X4 concept shown earlier this year at Shanghai Motor Show and will likely be a downsized version of the upcoming second-gen X6.

Since it will ride on the X3 platform, expect the 2014 BMW X4 to have a similar engine lineup which is likely to encompass a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo with 240 bhp (179 kW) and a larger inline-six, 3.0-liter TwinPower Turbo generating 300 bhp (224 kW). There should also be a more frugal version featuring a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo diesel producing 181 bhp (135 kW) and a maximum torque of 380 Nm (280 lb-ft).

The BMW X4 will probably reach dealerships early 2014.
