A prototype for the third-generaton Audi TT has been caught on the Nurburgring. It was spied undergoing an early round of high speed testing and here is a first chance to see and hear it in action.
The skin wears a thin layer of camouflage to hide the styling lines from the outside world, but we can clearly see the design has adopted an evolutionary rather than revolutionary approach.
The new TT will ride on the Volkswagen's MQB platform that already underpins the Audi A3 and will be available with a number of powertrain options. These could include a 1.8-liter TFSI with 180 HP (132 kW) and a 2.0-liter TSFI with output of 220 HP (162 kW) and 300 HP (221 kW).
Further down the line, we expect to see a more aggressive TT-RS with a turbocharged five-cylinder engine that produces 380 HP (279 kW).
We expect to see the 2015 Audi TT debut during 2014, possibly at the Geneva Motor Show.
