Autoblog.com blogger Jonathan Ramsey recently spent some quality time with GM's designers at their Advanced Design Studio (ADS) in California and received a first hand account of the Camaro Convertible Concept's design process. From the initial study brief to the first mock-ups, lead exterior GM designer Brian Smith gives Ramsey an account of how GM's VP's closely monitored and controlled the design process. They also pitted their design teams against each other. When the ADS designers thought they were done and ready to build the first prototype GM VP's activated their "basement" studio team in Detroit lovingly known as Studio X to create an alternate version.
