Automotive News is reporting Opel is currently developing a more rugged variant of the Adam city car which will be based on the Rocks concept.

When the Rocks concept was shown earlier this year at Geneva Motor Show, Opel described it as an "urban mini-crossover" and we expect the production version to follow the same philosophy as the Volkswagen cross up! and Fiat Panda 4x4. In other words, expect a slightly increased ride height, more plastic body cladding, larger wheels and beefed up bumpers.

Opel hasn't decided how to name the car but apparently we will see it in showrooms towards the end of next year. Taking into account the Rocks concept had a fabric roof, we won't be surprised if Opel is also planning a convertible Adam to compete with cars such as the Citroën DS3 Cabrio and Fiat 500C.
