Cadillac has announced the 2014 ELR will be priced from $75,995 - including a $995 destination charge and excluding government rebates of up to $7,500 - when it goes on sale in January.

Set to cost $41,000 more than the 2014 Chevrolet Volt, the ELR comes nicely equipped model with LED head- and taillights, a CUE infotainment system and a variety of safety features including a Safety Alert Seat, Forward Collision Alert, and a Lane Departure Warning system.

Motivation is provided by a 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery which powers an electric motor that develops 207 bhp (154 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque. When the battery becomes low, a 1.4-liter petrol engine activates to recharge it. This setup enables the model to travel approximately 35 miles (56 km) on electricity alone and more than 300 miles (480 km) combined.
