The third generation of the Smart ForTwo has returned in an additional batch of spy shots taken somewhere in southern Europe.

These latest photos show the new ForTwo will be slightly shorter and lower compared to the outgoing model and it will also have a shrunken wheelbase. These modifications will be applied in order to make room for a bigger model, the ForFour reboot, which is allegedly due in 2015 or 2016 with four doors and a longer wheelbase to provide a decent amount of legroom for rear passengers.

In terms of design, the new ForTwo will draw its inspiration from the ForVision concept shown two years ago at IAA. The car will utilize the same platform as the next-gen Renault Twingo which the French are planning to sell only as a five-door. Engine lineup will encompass three-cylinder gasoline and diesels, along with a possible EV variant with an 87 bhp (65 kW) electric motor.
