Opel has introduced the facelifted Meriva which comes with several notable revisions, specifically in the engine department.

We have seen the 2014 Meriva several times in spy shots and now the car has been officially revealed with a redesigned front grille, updated headlamps and more chrome accents around the fog lights. In addition, LED tech is now available for the daytime running lights and taillights as well.

The most important modification can be found under the hood where the Meriva gets a 1.6-liter CDTI diesel engine. This Euro 6-compliant motor made its debut in the Zafira Tourer and will be available at first on the Meriva in the 136 HP (100 kW) variant with a peak torque of 320 Nm (236 lb-ft). Fitted with this engine, the car will have a fuel consumption of only 4.4 liters / 100 km (53.4 mpg US or 64.2 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 116 g/km.

This engine replaces the old 1.7-liter motor which had 130 HP (96 kW) and was 10 percent thirstier. Opel mentions next year they will introduce several derivatives of the 1.6-liter diesel engine, promising to boast even lower fuel consumption and CO2 figures.

The other gasoline and LPG engines are all Euro 6 compliant, including the 1.4-liter gasoline motor (120 HP and 140 HP) which can now be mated to an updated six-speed, low-friction automatic gearbox. Opel's engineers have also overhauled the five- and six-speed manuals which now provide a smoother operation and more precise shifting.

Inside it gets a new generation of the IntelliLink infotainment system with a 7-inch color display, voice control support, rear-view camera and Bluetooth telephony capabilities. It also includes the entire map of Europe which can be updated through USB.

Pricing will be disclosed next month when order books will open, ahead of January when deliveries will commence.
