Preliminary technical details about the 2014 BMW M3 and M4 Coupe have surfaced the web, ahead of a 2014 market launch.
A reliable source from BimmerPost has disclosed precious info about the new M3 which will share its engine with the M4 lineup. The cars will offer more than 425 HP (312 kW) and 370 lb-ft (501 Nm) of torque, coming from what will probably be an inline-six S55 twin-turbo engine. Output will be transferred to the wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox or an optional seven-speed M DCT Drivelogic transmission.
The same source mentions "everyone will be impressed with the weight" so expect the new M3 to go on a considerable diet (rumored to lose 100 kg). This will be possible by installing a carbon fiber hood, roof and trunk, along with implement other weight-saving techniques.
Further details about the all-new M3 / M4 will be disclosed later today.
