Skoda is showcasing at IAA in Frankfurt the Rapid Spaceback which represents a hatchback version of the budget Czech sedan.

It's actually Skoda's first ever compact family hatchback and shares the same 2602mm wheelbase as the regular Rapid. Cargo capacity varies from 415 liters with the seats up to 1,380 liters once you fold them down. The overall length has been reduced by 180mm but it still offers best-in-class 64mm rear legroom and 980mm headroom.

Scheduled to go on sale next month, the Skoda Rapid Spaceback will be available with four gasoline engines and two diesels. Output will vary from 74 bhp (55 kW) to 121 (90 kW), while the frugal GreenLine version will have a fuel consumption of only 3.8 liters / 100 km and CO2 emissions of 99 g/km thanks to an economical 1.6 TDI mill with 89 bhp (66 kW).
