Opel has announced a major price reduction for the 2014 Ampera which kicks off at 38,300 EUR.

This new price makes it 7,600 EUR more affordable than previous model year without affecting any of the car's specifications. Opel says the Ampera is the only European electric car which can carry four people for 50 miles (80 km) on electric power and more than 311 miles (500 km) when used as a hybrid without having to stop for a recharge.

The Opel Ampera has a combined power output of 152 HP (111 kW) and 273 lb-ft (370 Nm) of torque thanks to an electric motor and a 1.4-liter gasoline range-extender engine. It comes with a 16 kWh lithium-ion battery and can perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 9 seconds, en route to a top speed of 99 mph (161 km/h).
