Mercedes-Benz has disclosed preliminary details for the CLA 45 AMG Racing Series.
This race-spec version of the CLA was designed to compete in series featuring turbocharged 2.0-liter engines. Mercedes-Benz says technical specifications will vary depending on the race series and rules so the engine’s output and gearbox are variable, while the standard front-wheel drive setup can be replaced by an all-wheel arrangement.
The new race-spec suspension comes with wider front and rear tracks, together with adjustable damper characteristics, spring rate and suspension level. In addition, the track and camber at both axles is adjustable, together with an AMG braking system featuring ventilated discs with an anti-lock system. Several body parts such as the front and rear apron, side sill panels and flared wings are made from carbon fiber.
Also part of the package are treadless wide racing tires, air intakes in the side panels ahead of the rear wheels, a steel roll cage, HANS-prepared Recaro bucket seat and a fire extinguishing system. Mercedes-Benz has also installed a racing steering wheel equipped with shift paddles.
