Ferrari has been considering a return to Le Mans and new report is indicating they could make a decision by the end of the year.

While nothing is official, Auto Motor und Sport says the company's new F1 engine could be easily adapted to power an LMP1 prototype. Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali has previously hinted at this possibility by saying "The new turbo engine, for introduction in formula one next year, would allow some interesting projects."

Ferrari also appears to be interested in Le Mans as it would allow them to compete with more automakers while avoiding F1-style drama.

If Ferrari decides to return to Le Mans, their first prototype could be ready as early as 2015.
