A 1986 Lotus 98T Formula One race car crashed last weekend at the 2013 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

It was an action-packed Goodwood FoS not only because of the generous car collection, but also due to numerous crashes. Yesterday we saw the Italdesign Giugiaro Parcour involved in an accident and today we take a look at a priceless Lotus F1 car getting wrecked after hitting the bales on the side of the track.

An evolution of the 97T, the Lotus 98T was developed for the 1986 Formula 1 season when it was driven by legend Ayrton Senna and Johnny Dumfries. The 1.5-liter turbocharged engine developed between 1,200 bhp (895 kW) and 1,300 bhp (969 kW). In Senna's car the engine was mated to a conventional five-speed gearbox while in Dumfries' car it worked with a new six-speed transmission which proved to be unreliable.

During the 16 races of the 1986 Formula 1 season, the Lotus 98T driven by Senna won the Spanish and Detroit Grand Prix.
