The 2014 Mazda6 fitted with the i-ELOOP system has been officially rated at 40 mpg on the highway.

i-ELOOP is available exclusively on the Grand Touring models (priced from 29,695 USD) and is part of the Technology Package which adds 2,080 USD to the final price tag so an i-ELOOP-fitted Mazda6 starts from 31,775 USD without the destination charges. The optional package also includes active grille shutters, Sport mode button, high beam control, lane departure warning system, Mazda Radar Cruise Control and forward obstruction warning system.

The Japanese marque says a 2014 Mazda6 fitted with i-ELOOP will do an EPA-rated 28 mpg city / 40 mpg highway / 32 mpg combined, while the version without the system returns 38 mpg on the highway.

As a reminder, i-ELOOP is a capacitor-based regenerative engine braking system capable of converting the car's kinetic energy into electricity during deceleration. The captured electricity is stored for powering the vehicle's electrical components like headlights, audio and climate control systems.
