Holden VF Ute sets a Nurburgring lap record [videos]

Holden has announced the SS V Redline Ute has a set a new lap record for commercial and utility vehicles at the Nürburgring.

The car was driven by Holden Dynamics Engineer Rob Trubiani who managed to complete a lap in 8 minutes and 19.47 seconds which is "faster than many exotic sports cars costing several times more than the Ute."

The world record claim is slightly dubious, but Trubiani explained “We came up with a plan to tackle the Nürburgring and break the world record for a commercial or utility vehicle but when we did our research it seemed one didn’t exist, so we decided to set a record instead!”

The record setting car was a "product-correct engineering test vehicle" that was virtually identical to the production model. It featured Brembo front brakes, a sports-tuned suspension, a six-speed automatic transmission and 19-inch alloy wheels with ultra high-performance tires. Power was provided by a 6.0-liter V8 engine that produces 348 bhp (260 kW) and 517 Nm (381 lb-ft) of torque.
