The 2014 Mercedes CL / S-Class Coupe has been spied undergoing testing in Germany.

Caught returning to a Mercedes-Benz facility, the prototype has classic proportions with a long hood and a short trunk. We can also see a gun-slit greenhouse, a single-bar grille and LED-infused headlights. Other highlights include a dual exhaust system and a protruding lower character line.

Engine options will likely be shared with the S-Class so expect a 4.7-liter V8 that produces 455 HP (335 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. There could also be a twin-turbo V6, a twin-turbo V8 and a couple of V12s.

The CL / S-Class Coupe is expected to be previewed by a near production concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The production model will likely follow sometime early next year.
