We've already heard rumors that the Land Rover Defender replacement was delayed over styling concerns and a new report is indicating the "basic" model has been scrapped altogether.

As a result, Autocar says the Defender successor won't be built in India and plans for an Indian engine factory have been put on ice. More interestingly, the Defender replacement has reportedly been delayed until after 2015. This creates a problem as the current model is slated to retire in 2015.

The changes are believed to be a result of Land Rover's decision to base the Defender successor on the company's aluminum PLA architecture. This likely means the model will be more upscale than originally anticipated, but Land Rover is optimistic that it will still be cost competitive.
