Infiniti will have on sale in 2016 a hybrid sports car, based on recent reports.

It will borrow tech from the Essence and Emerge-E concepts and will either utilize a range-extender or a plug-in hybrid system. Infiniti chief Andy Palmer described the new model "like the Tesla sports car option, but with more flexibility in terms of range". He also added it will be targeted to "little emperors – people who are used to getting what they want."

Palmer mentioned the vehicle will not utilize the engine from the Nissan GT-R since it's "not suitable for Infiniti" due to noise, vibration and harshness concerns. He declared Infiniti buyers are not clients willing to compromise, and Nissan's premium brand has to "deliver the best of everything".
