Lexus executives have revealed some new details about the company's upcoming model which is slated to go into production late next year.

Speaking to Automotive News, Toyota Motor President Akio Toyoda said the company needs something "more exciting, more exhilarating." That's pretty vague, but Lexus International Executive Vice President Mark Templin went on to say "I think a coupe could change perceptions of our brand and make us a more emotional brand and potentially reach younger buyers."

Everything sounds rather promising, but the mystery model is expected to be an entry-level crossover. Templin's predecessor, Kazuo Ohara, confirmed a concept would likely debut at the Tokyo Motor Show and more recent reports have indicated the production version could be unveiled as early as the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.

Little is known about the crossover, but it is expected to be based on the Toyota RAV4 and be offered with a hybridized 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 220 HP (162 kW).
